Flightscope Mevo Plus: why it’s worth the money

Flightscope Mevo Plus
The Flightscope Mevo Plus is a leading golf launch monitor

Guesswork is no longer enough in the game of golf – this is the age of data, science and certainty.

Of course, that’s nothing new to tour players but these days even relatively casual recreational golfers know their attack angle from club path. And if you’re serious about making significant improvements to your game, and crucially knowing, unequivocally, where your strengths and weaknesses are, you will be looking for the best launch monitor you can afford.

The Flightscope Mevo Plus is a serious piece of kit for golfers looking to get serious about their game. Over a number of months, we were asked to review it and see whether it really did lead to the kind of improvements, the product claims it will deliver. This Flightscope Mevo Plus review will delve into performance, value for money and ease of use and hopefully equip you with all the knowledge you need to make the best possible decision about what’s best for you in a crowded launch monitor market.

What is Flightscope Mevo Plus?

In simple terms, the Flightscope Mevo Plus is a portable launch monitor, which tracks the golf ball and gives you metrics and data about your swing. It also allows you to play simulated golf on some of the world’s great courses – at home. What became clear to us, is that it’s accurate enough for club fitters to use this to fit sets of clubs and it’s certainly good enough for coaches to use it to teach. But primarily it is aimed at dedicated golfers who simply want to get better, by really understanding their club delivery and how they hit the golf ball. For all intents and purposes, it is a launch monitor that is really pushing those used on tour – such as the GC Quad and Trackman – which are up to 10 plus times the price.

At its core, Mevo + is a radar system which tracks the ball as you hit it and sees the club as it comes into the ball. It delivers 20 plus data points, measuring everything from full swings with drivers and irons to chipping and even putting. It also features connectivity with E6 software, which is a really great graphic simulator package. It works with an IOS devices, to give you incredible portability, as well as PCs, for home simulators.

Flightscope Mevo Plus unboxing

The unboxing experience for the Flightscope Mevo Plus is everything you would hope it would be.

The whole thing drips with quality. You are greeted with a robust, durable carry case when you open the box. If you’re taking your Mevo Plus to the range, this is the case you will take with you and it’s built to last. You will also find a power adapter, a manual and you will find the Mevo Plus unit itself, which is neat and light and comes complete with kickstand at the back, which means you can stand the unit up behind you very easily as you practice.

The product is super user friendly; it is easy to pair and connect. The whole thing looks fantastic, it’s beautifully designed, it’s portable but it is also solid enough to place down in a home simulator and leave there. Top marks.

What does Flightscope Mevo measure?

The Flightscope Mevo Plus offers a robust suite of data points, with more than 20 metrics related to your golf swing. That extensive number of metrics – some of which are listed below – will allow you to get a really detailed understanding of your swing, ball flight, strengths and weaknesses. To say it’s thorough is an understatement. Here are just some of the metrics you will find.

  • Ball Speed
  • Club Speed
  • Spin Rate
  • Launch Angle
  • Carry Distance
  • Total Distance
  • Vertical Launch Angle
  • Horizontal Launch Angle
  • Smash Factor

It has to be said, the accuracy of the Mevo Plus hugely impressed us. Whether you are hitting full drives or short wedge shots, the data remains consistent and reliable. Is Mevo + Good for Speed Training?

We used the Mevo Plus alongside the Stack System to work on increasing our swing speed and the two units complimented each other beautifully. You can swing in front of it with no ball and the Mevo Plus will measure the speed of whatever moves, allowing you to build up some great data as you put in the work to try and add yards to your game.

How to use Flightscope Mevo +

The versatility of the Flightscope Mevo Plus is one of its huge strengths. You could use it at the driving range, you can use it indoors and you can use it at home, in your garden, or at an indoor golf simulator. You do need a certain amount of distance – perhaps around 2m in front and behind – to make this work. You need the ball to fly that far to really see the best numbers and accurate data on things like club path and face angle. Obviously outdoors that is less of an issue, but you do need to connect the Mevo Plus to a device to see the numbers from your golf swing. For that reason, playing a round of golf with it is probably not practical.

Flightscope Mevo Plus: the set up

Setting up the Mevo Plus is pretty straightforward. The package includes a user manual that guides you through the process. The device pairs with your smartphone or tablet quickly, and the app interface is intuitive, making it accessible even for those who are not tech-savvy.

How much is the Mevo Plus?

The cost of the Mevo + will obviously vary depending on where you are buying it from but generally it will range from around £1,750 to around £2,000. You can buy additional packages to add to the device. The pro package comes in around £775 and the face impact location package.
